CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is one of the most gentle and subtle therapies practised and can have a profound effect on the body. It involves you lying on your back (fully clothed) and the therapist applies the lightest of touches, tapping into your cranio-sacral rhythm, which enables your body to respond in a positive way, using its own powers of self-healing.

Why choose CST?  CST may be helpful for people who have the following conditions:
Chronic pain (including neck & back pain)Reduced motility (stiff joints)Low energyHeadaches and migrainesLearning difficulties e.g. dyslexia & dyscalcliaMenstrual and menopausal problemsClumsinessSinus problemsCentral Nervous System disordersPost-Traumatic Stress DisorderFibromylagia and other connective tissue disordersEmotional difficulties

The therapy aims to release restrictions/correct dysfunctions that occur anywhere in the body. Restrictions prevent proper functioning and can affect areas quite distant to the initial area of restriction. Bones of the skull can become restricted (sometimes since birth) and can cause problems and these may be released via CranioSacral Therapy.

Traumas experienced by the body can sometimes remain within the body tissues, and CST may help to release those, enabling the tissues to return to their correct positions.

What might I feel during a treatment?  People feel different things but many feel sensations of warmth, cold, tingling, pressure, or electrical (low current!!) buzz. Sometimes they can feel sensations of a particular area of their body moving slightly. It nearly always induces a deep state of relaxation.

Who can have CST?  All ages, from very young babies to the elderly may benefit from CST. It does require the person to be able to lie (or sit) fairly still for a while.

An "offshoot" to CST is SomatoEmotional Release (SER) which enables release of negative emotional energy from tissues in the body. It is apparent that the body can store negative emotions in tissues, which can cause disruptions in the proper functioning of the body - whether in muscles, joints, organs or other tissue. Releasing the energy may help relieve pain and allow the tissues to work efficiently again. SER is also practised by our therapists.
